Shanna's Cornbread

11/2 cup cornmeal 
1/2 cup flour
4 tbs baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 tbs sugar
11/3 cup milk
1 large egg, beaten
1 tbs melted, butter, lard or drippings
Hot water as needed 
extra cornmeal

 Grease a 9" skillet and place in a 375 F oven. Combine the dry ingredients and sift in a bowl. 
Beat milk and egg together, add the dry ingredients and blend. Stir in the butter. As you stir the
 batter will get thicker. Stir in hot water drip by drip, blending after each until batter just 
drops from spoon. Remove skillet and sprinkle with a little cornmeal. Pour in batter
and bake about 30 mins until brown.
