Billy laughed and said, “That was fun we haven’t been there in awhile, everybody

wanting a beer?” Charles/Kathryn smiled and said, “No thanks, not now, I

will be right back.”

Billy walks with Charles/Kathryn and as the approach her friends, they are all

excited and give her a big hugs as Billy continues on gets the beer and goes back

to the box. Two more races pass and Charles/Kathryn walks to the box.

Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “How’s my makeup, do I look all right to

have my picture taken again.”

Billy screamed, “He won, he won.” And grabbed Charles/Kathryn and hugged

her and she hugged back. All of sudden he stopped and said, “I am sorry, I got

carried away, I saw your friends hug you.”

Charles/Kathryn smiled and said, “Maybe we should do it more often, I have a

lot of guy friends hug me, it is suppose to be good for you.”

Robert laughed and said, “Your right, if good friends can’t show some affection

at an exciting time like this then we have become too jaded, gives me a hug

honey.”

Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “The eagle came through, just like God

said. I wish Richard had raced his horse and he would have won.”

Billy laughed and said, “Twenty years, we race horses and never have we both

won on the same day.”

Ken laughed and said, “It wasn’t the eagle, I said it last night when cunado

wears a dress the world goes insane.”

Robert laughed and said, “A toast to the death of Charles and birth of Kathryn.”

Ken laughed and said, “I drink to that, consider it done, let’s go get our picture

taken.”

They floated on a cloud and with heads held high left the winners circle and

Charles/Kathryn’s friends come down and everybody is so excited everyone

exchanging hugs.

Robert laughed and said, “We have another day of races and no horses running.

I guess we will party.”

Ken said, “I’ll second that.”

Everybody raised there glasses and saluted.

Billy looked puzzled at Charles/Kathryn and said, “You didn’t raise your

beer.”

Every one looked at her.

She clenched her teeth smiled and said. “I don’t have a beer. Uh, uh, my other

friends are going back to Houston , they just came for the day. They have a King

Air and offered me a seat; I am going back to Houston . I am tired, I was in a barroom

brawl and to you get there and I hope you don’t. You don’t stop thinking

that maybe next week I will be indicted and I might go to prison. I will check on

the Bedouin and the camels at La Demasiado. Have fun and I will see you in

Houston .”

Ken smiled and said, “I could see it in her eyes, her heart wasn’t here, she was

putting on a front, we may have gained a girlfriend but I think we lost a racing,

hunting and poker buddy. When she hit that guy last night and he didn’t hit the

floor till she kicked him, her heart was in Houston .”

GR laughed and said, “Those hormones have probably taken some strength.”

She arrived at her residence, washed the smell of the horses and Texas dust off

with a hot shower and decided she would go to the little lesbian bar down the

street. Prancing in a short skirt and high heels, a huge smile came across her face

would get me a letter to get the hormones.”

Sal said, “We have to run okay Kathryn, tell us where you hide the millions.”

Everyone laughed and the one that had been buying the drinks left with her

lover. The other girls said, “Cool Kathryn, she is IRS agent. They have a reward if

any one can find the millions.”

Charles/Kathryn said, “What’s up?”

Joel said, “The justice department called and wants some more papers, I think

we ought to let them subpoena them, it will cost you about $8,000.00 for that

day in court, but it will put them on notice that any time they want something

they will have to go to court. I talked to Coastal’s lawyer and they threaten

Johnny, I will file for a new grand jury.”

Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “Let’s kick ass. GR walked in and I need to

talk to him.”

GR laughed and said, “Whose ass are we going to kick? Everyone missed you

the last days of the races. I am getting married.”

Charles/Kathryn laughed and said “The feds, we have reason to believe the

justice department tainted the jury. Who are you marrying? I got some well

deserved rest; I stayed at La Demasiado and just walked through the woods.”

GR smiled and said, “This girl I met in East Texas , I will introduce you. You

look rested, anything else going on?”

“A lot I’ll be out the rest of day, if you need anything call me.”

Jennifer said, “Richard line 2.”

Kathryn laughed and said, “How were the coon ass politicians handsome?”

“Great, how were the races?”

Charles/Kathryn excitingly said, “Richard, you should have raced, I saw a

Mexican bald eagle, a symbol of freedom. Our horse won the race and we won

$70,000.00 in the Calcutta . If you had raced your horse you would have won.”

Richard laughed and said, “An eagle let you win the race? What about the

twins, I guess it let it win.”

Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “It did they won too. I came back the first

day, I was tired. Seriously, how was the fund raiser?”

“It went better than expected a lot of top politicians were there. Every one

loves the pent house. Every one said to tell you hello.”

Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “We got in a bar fight.”

“What, you’re with four big guys and you got in a fight are you hurt.”

Charles/Kathryn said, “No, it happened quickly they got arrested.”

The next day at the office

Jennifer said, “Line 2 Ken.”

“What’s happening winner, you guys still on cloud 9 from winning the races?”

Ken laughed and said, “I will be up there for a month, that was spectacular

wasn’t it”

“It was and knocks the amount of money for the great camel race down.”

“Are you really trying to throw out the jury as the paper said, you don’t think

it will backfire? I put the money in the camel account.”

“No, it can’t backfire, the feds tainted them. I have to run I will call you later,

I have to send the chopper after Jackson .”

Jennifer said, “Billy line 1.”

Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “Hey winner, I just talked to that other

winner, we’re still on a high over it.”

Billy laughed and said, “That it was my girl, we have a table for the St. Joseph

ball Friday night for the four of us and our dates. The people that threw the party

we went to in NYC are going to be here and I thought I would invite them and

we would all go to the Carrier afterwards. There are 3 married couples of them

and I thought GR would join us and make 4 couples to the table.”

“He is going already with his new fiancée, there has been so much going on I

guess I forgot to tell anybody, when I bought a table I paid for ten, so I will messenger

a check for the other 6 no problem.”

“Are you really going to throw out a jury?”

“Sure, it’s the American way, the feds can’t taint them. My son is coming

home tonight from college for a couple days.”

“First time since you came out?”

“I hate to say it but yes.”

Jackson comes home from college and he and Charles/Kathryn are sitting in

living room. Jackson fixes them a drink.

Jackson said, “Well it’s not a complete surprise, I knew something was weird

with you. Are you gay?”

Charles/Kathryn smiled and said, “No, I am straight, I just like to dress up.”

“OK, I guess were all full of surprises.”

“I am going out to meet some friends.”

“You coming home for dinner/”

Jackson leaves and Charles/Kathryn wonders if he screwed up to have a gay

son. In about 30 min. the door bell rings.

“ Jackson , why didn’t you use your key?”

Jackson laughed and said, “Dad, you’re taking hormones to change your body

and with that sawed off behind the door. I didn’t want some hormone crazed

person to shoot me. You want another drink?”

“Sure, how’s school?”

“Fine, what are you doing?”

“Well your uncle, Billy, Robert, GR and some friends from NYC and I are

going to St Joseph ball and the Carrier.”

“Dad, what’s the Carrier?”

Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “Its name is the something ship we all call

it the Carrier because it’s so big. It has come since you were in college. It is a

cruise ship that has been docked at the harbor. It is 3 floors plus the deck; it has 4

restaurants, a VIP club where you can order food from any of the restaurants, a

gym, a VIP gym and about 20 bars. There is this huge deck on top so when the

weather is pretty you can sit around or dance under the big Texas stars.”

Jackson laughed and said, “Dad that sounds fabulous.”

Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “Son, it has like 10-12 theme bars. There

is the Gym bar where they have these muscle gay dancers and waiters, a gay bar, a

straight bar. A straight and gay go go bars. They have Trans bar, a lesbian bar and

illusion bar with female impersonators. The have a couple indoor pools and outside

pool. The outside walls are all windows and 1st and 2nd decks have walking

walkways around there decks. There is no smoking except on the deck or walkways.”

Jackson laughed and said, “I will dad; lets eat before I get drunk. I have a question

I have been reading about this are you going to have your sex changed? Do

Kathryn laughed and said, “Nobody is going to cut off my penis and I have

never felt like there was a woman trapped in my body. I don’t want to be a

The room was a circus theme at the center was a ring nets setup and a tight rope

was above it with a trapeze above it. It was billed as black tie, the men in black tie

and the ladies in long gowns. The crowd was more opulent than ever the big jewelry

was out of the deposit boxes and borrowed from the jewelers. This crowd

wanted a good time and would have it. The band was playing and people were

dancing in the ring. The crowd was greeted by fire eaters and clowns.

Ken laughed and said, “Charles/Kathryn you look wonderful. This is my date

Sarah There is the Borden gang.”

They walked over everybody was introduced as GR and his fiancée Cindy

showed up and they all sat down. The guys from NYC are Michael, John and

Johnny and their wife’s. Richard and Charles/Kathryn go dance.

New York lady said, “This is so fun a circus theme look at the clown on stilts.”

Michael laughed and said, “Where’s the other guy at the NYC party,

Charles?”

Robert laughed and said “She’s dancing with Richard; see the one in the gold

tight gown, that’s Charles/Kathryn now.”

John laughed and said, “A cross dresser in red neck Houston , that is sooo New

York and she looks dynamite.”

They came back to the table and sat down.

Michael said, “Kathryn, you changed clothes since the NYC party. It is very

becoming, look at all those clowns getting out of that little car.”

Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “I told the guys on the way home.”

GR and Cindy came back from dancing.

Len and his date walked over to the table and Kathryn introduced him to all.

Len laughed and said, “We have a table over there, you look good make a fine

looking chick.”

As the band played a slow dance music Len told his date, “Wait for me at the

table. Would you like to dance honey?”

They went to the dance floor and started dancing.

Ken laughed and said, “One of these days she’s going to get us all killed, out

there dancing with known mobster. It’s insane.”

Len laughed and said, “The things I do for you, this will legitimize you, the

big bad mobster dancing with a TV.”

Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “You know I appreciate it.”

. They danced around the floor for every one to see and took her back to the

table and gave her a hug.

Johnny laughed and said, “We saw your picture on the front page of the paper

and I saw you received a new subpoena into days paper are you afraid of the rednecks

hurting you.”

Robert laughed and said, “It’s probably the other way, the rednecks don’t

want to be hurt, and her neck is probably redder. The guy that just danced with

her nobody will hurt her as he blessed her.”

Ken laughed and said, “It’s kind of like a mob blessing, they either kill you are

bless you.”

Michael laughed and said, “Kathryn would you like to dance?”

Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “Certainly, I will save a slow one for you

cunado.”

The whole table laughed after a couple hours the tight walker walked, the flying

trapeze people performed and the mini circus was put on and the ring master

hollered in his megaphone, “That concludes the performance now dance and

party the night away.”

John laughed and said, “That was absolutely Texas its something you would

expect here. Kathryn would you do me the honor.”

The came back and Robert said, “My turn Kathryn and then let’s go show our

Yankees friends the Carrier”

Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “That’s a great ideal ya’ll love it. Did you

tell them about it the different bars?”

Billy said, “We did, why don’t we meet at VIP and go from there to the different

theme bars.”

They arrived at the Carrier and the limos dropped them off at the VIP

entrance recognized and immediately was ushered in and seated.

Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “Its perfect, a perfect night to go on the

deck and see the Texas stars, we have been inside all night lets drink this drink

and show our friends a warm Texas night under our great stars.”

Johnny laughed and said, “Kathryn doll, I don’t want to correct you, but the

stars belong to all the states the world.”

Charles/Kathryn shook her head laughed and said, “Wait to you see the

brightest Texas stars and then tell me that.”

They finished there drinks and while walking up on the deck hearing the band

playing “Deep in the Heart of Texas” and the whole deck was singing along.

Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “Hear that song, listen to the words, the

stars are bright.”

She led them to the far end while they all joined in on the singing where the

lights are dim and swept here hand toward the sky and said, “To our new friends,

we Texans share our stars with you.”

Michael eyes widen and said, “You right it’s an awesome site, it’s beautiful.”

Ken laughed and said, “Cotton eye Joe.”

Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “Richard why don’t you teach Johnny’s

wife and I’ll teach him how to cotton eyed Joe.”

Richard laughed and said, “I rather teach him.”

Charles/Kathryn swept her hair back and said, “I know, but he’s straight and

would rather dance with me.”

Richard laughed and said, “I won’t go there. You really believe the straight guy

would rather dance with a transvestite than a gay guy?”

Kathryn laughed and said, “Of course.”

Every one laughed as they got up to dance.

Michael catching his breath said, “I love the cotton eye Joe that is so fun.

Kathryn’s right there is nothing like this dancing under the Texas stars, it’s

great.”

Ken coming back from the bathroom stopped and was talking to Kathryn and

Richard with two ladies danced by and stopped and walked over and kissed Kathryn

and Richard.

Jan laughed and said, “How did you do on the dance floor?”

Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “Great, thanks to you ladies.”

Ken with a wicked smile and his eyes on the ladies said, “You are going to

introduce your cunado, to the ladies?”

Charles/Kathryn cut her eyes smiled and said, “Sure, Jan and Lynn meet Ken

my brother in law.”

Ken looked them over with that look and smiled approvingly and said, “I saw

ya’ll at the ball. Why don’t you ladies let Ken buy you a drink?”

Jan threw her blonde hair back and laughed and said, “Richard, see that look

in his eyes tell him.”

Richard laughed and said, “Their lovers, there lesbians, you better stick to

your date.”

Everyone laughed

Ken laughing said, “What you girls need is a real man to straighten you out.”

They laughed and danced off.

Richard said, “Kathryn, I want to go to the gay Gym bar and see the new act,

it’s suppose to be so campy.”

Charles/Kathryn said, “We will be back, and he is taking me to some deviate

show.”

Ken laughed and said, “Richard be careful, it’s no telling what kind of trouble

she will get you into.”

Billy smiled and said, “She sure kisses a lot of people and it seems everybody

knows her.”

Michael said, “Who is Richard, her escort?”

Robert said, “Old money, that family has more money than God. He was a

fighter pilot in Nam heavily decorated and gay has a lover named Derek. We all

went to school together and he and Kathryn were always tight.”

Johnny with a surprise look said, “You think of Houston you think rednecks,

I have seen more gays tonight than in NYC.”

Billy said, “I think here in Texas, we figured out that there are more important

things in life to worry about than a person’s sex preference, look at Kathryn,

everybody thinks it’s normal.”

Ken smiled and said, “It seems like every family has one or has a good friend

that has one, so it’s no big deal. What’s strange to me is how many gays are disowned

by there parents. Kathryn’s parents disowned her. I have three children

and what kind of parent disown there own, even animals don’t abandon there

own?”

Charles/Kathryn and Richard walked back and Charles/Kathryn laughed and

said, “You guys be careful, Richards all hot and bothered. You know in the days

when the Huns came to town men hide there women. When Richard comes we

hide the guys. It really was a good show.”

Charles/Kathryn gasps and tears came to her eyes and she starts crying.

Richard said, “Honey, what the hell is wrong.”

Charles/Kathryn crying said, “I am so selfish, I I I fforgot to tell you, I ruined

my sons life.”

Richard put his arm around her shoulder.

Ken said, “There’s nothing wrong with Jackson, I saw him yesterday.”

Charles/Kathryn crying harder said, “He told me last night, he is gay. I have

done something wrong and can’t figure out what. I think I at fault because of the

way I dress”

Richard took her and hugged her as she put her face on his shoulder and

stroked her hair and said, “Honey, calm down it’s not your fault trust me I went

through this with parents. Mom was just like you crying when I told her and a

complete guilt trip.”

Charles/Kathryn cried and said, “I don’t care if he is gay, I still love him. It’s

just a harder life when you’re gay or a TV and I don’t think anybody wants there

child to have a hard life it’s natural to want an easier life for them.”

Richard said, “It is, but we survived and he will to and it’s getting easier.

You’re helping, prople are beginning to understand being different doesn’t make

you a bad person.”

Billy said, “I have never seen you cry, I didn’t know you were capable of crying.

Richards’s right people are beginning to think its normal for you to dress like

a woman. It seems like it’s always been that way.”

Richard said, “We will be right back, I will take her to repair her makeup, she

will be all right.”

In about 20 mins they came back and she was completely composed.

Charles/Kathryn said, “I am sorry gang, it just now hit me, he told me last

night, I apologize for losing it. I just feel so guilty.”

They were enthusiastically greeted by the owner as they walked inside Chico’s.

Chico smiled broadly and said, “Senor, the usual and for your friend?”

Ken smiled and said, “The same and put the ranchero sauce on the side, for

them there Yankee friends.”

Michael said, “This menudo soup is a little greasy but delicious.”

“I need the grease with all the drinking I did.” Robert laughed and said, “Folk

lore says it cures a hang over.”

The eggs were served with platters piled high of biscuits, refried beans, guacamole

salad and flour tortillas and two platters of steaming sizzling barbocoa de

cabeza.

John said, “The menudo was it cooked with cow foot, authentic Mexican?”

Robert said, “Yes, it’s genuine Mexican.”

Billy laughed and said, “I can’t believe we didn’t eat dinner and have been

drinking this long and I am not drunk.”

Ken laughed and said, “You danced it off, I have never seen you dance so

much.”

Billy smiled and said, “It was a pleasant evening, I really felt relaxed and

enjoyed myself.”

Richard said, “Kathryn, it’s 5:30 in the morning, we have to leave, we have

that Angels dinner at 8.”

Charles/Kathryn said, “I am so sorry Richard, I completely forgot, of course

we will leave.”

Robert said, “What are the Angels?”

“A couple years a group got together and invited me to a dinner.” Charles/

Kathryn smiled and said, “We all put up a grand, there were 12 of us. It was

when aids first came out and the money was to fund research, all these gays were

dying.”

Richard said, “Then Charles was the only straight person there with his date,

this doctor got up and said we don’t know what causes it, it could be in the air in

this room. Every body froze and looked at each other.”

Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “I said, I was safe, my date and I were the

only straight there, it was the first Houston aids fund raiser, we do have to run,

maybe we can have cocktails later.”

“How did you get invited?” Robert said,

Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “I was dating a girl whose brother was

gay.”

As they walked out they stopped at a table and talked to the group of friends.

Billy laughed and said, “I like Charles, but I like Kathryn better, I can dance

with her.

See how she always hugs everybody and everybody hugs her.”

Ken laughed and said, “You have flipped, that is Charles in a dress. It is not

another person. That is the same guy you threw the touchdown pass to.”

“No, you’re wrong; see how she stands, how her head is cocked, the way the

hips are positioned.” Michael said, “It’s her natural way, the body language of a

woman, before as a guy it was forced, in fact it was over forced so no one would

suspect. You are witnessing a transformation, she heading to where she should

have been.”

Robert said, “She said she will never have the operation.”

Ken said, “We have all been together for 40 years, she’s not leaving. Even if

she has the operation she will be with us, we’re each others family we’re stronger

than blood relatives.”

Michael said, “As a butterfly comes out the cocoon and flies away, she will to

after the operation she will start searching.”

Robert laughed and said, “For what, she has everything she wants here. She

has many good friends; she is rich and good looking.”

“The life she didn’t have, the last 40 years wasn’t hers and she will realize it the

more she transforms and start looking for the life she missed.” Michael said,

“Right now she’s confused it’s like starting a journey, she doesn’t know what’s

ahead. She is on a journey without a map. Unfortunately at her age she won’t

find it. The power to find that will supercede any money, friends and good looks,

she knows she missed it and can never get it back.”

Billy said, “If anybody can find it she will.”

Michael said, “No, she know she is a made woman and will not be a mother

and miss that part of life raising her children as there mother. He probably tried

hard but he wasn’t a very good father”

GR laughed and said, “After I found out he once told me that he tried and

tried hard to be a guy, but he just couldn’t cut it.”

Michael laughed and said, “I am sure she did but the first time I met him in

NYC, I knew he was over compensating the male body language. It’s like when a

man try’s to imitate a woman’s walk and over compensates the hips swinging,

you notice when she walks her hips swing naturally. Before she came out to you,

did you ever notice her being feminine? I mean all guys show there female side.”

Ken laughed and said, “Never did he show a feminine side, Michael how do

you know so much about this subject, it’s not a normal subject?”

“He is head of psychology at one of the East coast schools and head of East

coast physiatrist hospital. We will be here to help and guide her.” Robert said,

Michael said, “Watch her and you will see the changes, there will be drastic.

You can’t help or guide her, like I said she doesn’t know where this will take her.

They will be a lot of ifs; if I would have married a rich guy, if I would have married

a poor guy, what if I stayed single, if I would have been a good mother, how

would my children turn out. So she can only help herself, she has a strong mind;

a lot get depressed and frustrated over ifs and what might have been. Just don’t

cast her aside if she starts having mood swings.”

“I speak for all when I say we will never ever cast her off.” Robert smiled and

said.

Ken laughed and said, “Its daylight, ya’ll want to go rest or go out to my yacht

and fish.”

Billy laughed and said, “Of course, I always fish in a tux, with ladies in their

ball gowns. I think I will get some sleep and maybe have cocktails later.”

Later

Billy called Charles/Kathryn and said, “How do you feel?”

Charles/Kathryn said, “I slept about 7 hours, what time did you leave”

Billy laughed and said, “Daylight and I slept about 7 hours, everyone is coming

over far cocktails about 6. You and Richard want to drop by on the way to

your dinner. Come to my pent house, our NYC couples are bunked in Roberts,”

Charles/Kathryn laughingly said, “I am sure we will it has been about 8 hours

since we had a drink and we’re going with another couple can we bring them?”
