Ken said, “What do you do?”
She said, “I am a bull rider I won the championship last
year?
Ken swallowed hard as he realized he had made a mistake and
grinned as he
looked over at the gang and they were laughing hysterically.
As Kathryn meandered
by he motioned for Kathryn to come over and she smiled and
shook her
head, she knew he was in a jam.
Ken laughed and said, “You look mighty petite to be a bull
rider. I want you
to meet my brother-in-law Charles/Kathryn.”
Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “Hi did my cunado try to
put the make on
you.”
She laughed and said, “It flattering isn’t it, I saw your
picture in the paper, and
we need more like you to step up to the plate for us all.”
As Kathryn started toward Ken a man suddenly stepped in front
of her startling
her. He flashed a badge and asked her to follow him. Ken
sensing trouble
stepped in front of them as the room fell silent. Richard and
several more started
toward Kathryn as four other men in suits, maneuvered her
between them
Charles/Kathryn stopped and said, “Man, unless you want a
bar room fight,
somebody better explain, what in the hells going on, don’t
let these clothes fool
you. Just because you show a badge doesn’t mean I follow. I
am already fighting
the Justice department a few state troopers can be handled,
that’s why God made
lawyers.”
Ken took his watch off and put it in his pocket laughed and
said, “Oh hell
man, every time she said that we fight.”
The guy talking real low said, “The governor needs to see
you.”
Charles/Kathryn said, “Why didn’t you just say so.”
She walked with the man and turned and motioned everything
was fine..
Richard concerned walked over to the troopers and said, “I
saw bigger guns
and tougher guys than you in
Nam
,
two duties and unless you want your ass
kicked, you will let me by.”

Richard’s ruckus stopped Kathryn and the man and she
explained who he was
and the trooper motioned to let him by. He walked over hugged
Kathryn and
with his arm around her waist they followed the man to a door
to a room where
two more troopers were standing.
He started to open the door and said, “What are you
drinking?”
He then told one of the troopers to go get the drinks and
tell everyone to continue
partying and bring our troopers in here. He opened the door
and said,
“Next time Governor, we need to handle this some other way,
some of these fairies
are all
Nam
vets, my boys almost got there asses kicked.”
The Governor said, “I wanted to talk to Charles/Kathryn in
private and who
are you?”
Richard said, “Richard, and I am her best friend, you
better let me go calm
down that group. Some of those fairies were shot down over
Nam
and some were
Special Forces.”
Charles/Kathryn said, “All somebody had to say was you
wanted to see me. I
would have come.”
Meanwhile at the party Robert said, “She is probably all
right only one person
carries around state troopers.”
Derek smiled said, “The governor, it should have been
handled better.”
Richard came back and confirmed it was the governor and
everyone calmed
down.
The Governor said, “Sit down Charles/Kathryn, I have to
admire you coming
out in the paper that was a shrewd move so early in the
investigation. It sent the
feds scurrying to cover there ass. This is Mr. Holster he is
head of the highway
commission.”
Mr. Holster laughed and said, “Charles/Kathryn I used to be
a district head,
you have been in construction since you were 9. You daddy
since he was 10. Your
reputation is unblemished, if they would have left you alone
you was about to
save Len’s company and would have saved us lot of money.
You know construction
and your tough negotiator; I think you have too much pride to
bribe, have
you ever bribed a highway official?”
The trooper knocked on the door came in and served drinks.
Charles/Kathryn smiled said, “No, your right it’s my
style to bribe I know the
highway bible and I know it well. I have never been afraid to
go to the next level
to get something done. I or my company has not bribed anyone.
Has somebody
given someone a bottle of whiskey or a lunch, baseball game
sure? You know
that’s not a bribe.”
“Of course it’s not a bribe. I am talking money.” Mr.
Holster said.

“No, I have never gave anyone money.”
The Governor said, “You have sold 70% of the stabilized
sand in this area, is
the roads safe, will the sand meet the requirements.”
Charles/Kathryn said, “I sell the sand to the contractor if
he didn’t juice it will
pass. All the random tests that the highway department took
as the sand left the
plants passed.”
Mr. Holster said, “She is right. How did you know?”
The Governor reached in his pocket and said, “This is a
letter from the federal
government confirming all sand tests passed.”
Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “Whew, could I get
another drink?”
Governor walked over to the door opened it and ordered the
drinks.
Charles/Kathryn said, “Why all the questions and mystery if
you knew?”
The Governor said, “This proves your honest, we wanted to
be sure there were
no briberies. If there were we figured you would tell us.
These results must be
kept a secret for a couple days.”
The door opened a tray of drinks were set on the table.
Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “My friend Richard is
completely honest
he has been there for me, please let him share my joy, his
word is so good they
will make book in Vegas on anything he says.”
The governor went to the door and said something to the
troopers and
handed Charles/Kathryn a drink, the three clicked glasses.
There was a knock on
the door and Richard walked in and Kathryn ran into his arms
and they hugged.
Richard said, “Congratulations gentlemen there is no bruise
on her body, ya’ll
live to see another day.”
Charles/Kathryn smiled said, “They are going to tell you
something, you cannot
repeat it and I told them you word is good.”
The Governor handed him a drink laughed and said, “Did you
really think
you could take us and the troopers?”
Richard smiled said, “Of course, one of those guys out
there was shot down in
Nam
and another was the Special Forces that rescued him. It took 8 days to get
to
Laos
.
They lost count of the gooks they killed to get out and if that didn’t
work.”
As he opened his coat the light gleamed off the ivory handle
of a 9mm in his
waist band.
Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “Richard no flashbacks
there with us. I was
joking he doesn’t have flash backs.”

The Governor smiled said, “You have some very good friends,
Richard as I
was telling Charles/Kathryn this is a letter from the feds
stating the cement passed
all tests.”
Richard smiled and took her in his arms and hugged her and
said, “Sorry
about the threat that’s great news, that’s such a
relief.”
Mr. Holster smiled and said, “This is strictly confidential
this is classified, but
I am going to tell you. The county tested 50 sites on M &
C projects and 49
passed the other barley failed, they will announce it but not
now. They are going
to keep the jury to prove price fixing and conspiracy. It’s
kind of stupid; the
prices have never been this low.”
The Governor said, “The state of
Texas
will release a statement to the press,
that the sand passed and we dropping all investigation. The
feds are staying with
the price fixing. Again this is strictly confidential.”
Richard said, “The county and feds results are
confidential, but we can talk
about the states.”
Mr. Holster looked at the Governor and said, “
Midnight
you can tell, by then
the papers will be running the story.”
There was a knock on the door and the trooper said, “There
sitting down to
eat in 20 mins.”
Charles/Kathryn n said, “Ya’ll going to eat?”
“Sure.”
Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “Richard, the drag queen
bull rider would
make a good escort for one of them and he can probably find a
queen for the
other.”
They all laughed.
The Governor laughed and said, “As the head of
Texas
I have certain privileges
however at the risk of being killed. I here by sign an
executive order that you
will be on my arm if Richard won’t kill us.”
Richard laughed and said, “She’s yours I have a boy
friend out there. I can’t
believe you said that about flash backs I could see the
uncertain in his eyes.”
Mr. Holster, said, “That was funny; I thought he was
flashing back, I have
another appointment he has to get the votes thanks for every
thing and good luck
on everything Kathryn and Richard.”
As the three walked in with the troopers everyone clapped.
Kathryn noticed
Richard walk over and slip the pistol to the chauffer.
As they walked around the room visiting with some of their
friends two guys
walked up and Tommy said, “Governor, I want to thank you
for the road you

The Governor laughed and said, “The area needed the road,
Kathryn this is
Tommy and John from Zapata.”
They hugged and Kathryn laughed and said, “Glad to meet
you, I have heard
about you. Ya’ll have the ranch where my brother-in-law and
the twins went
hunting.”
The Governor said, “That group was at your ranch, I have
hunted there.”
They walked over and there were the Borden twin, Ken and Len
talking, the

hugged Kathryn.
Charles/Kathryn smiled said, “When did you get here?”
Len said, “About ten minuets ago, I was running late. How
are you Governor?”
The Governor laughed and said, “Fine Len, and how the rest
of my friends are
ya’ll doing alright?”
He shook every ones hand and as he knew them personally.
Charles/Kathryn looked at the security chief and pointed to
Len, Ken and the
twins and laughed and said, “Is this the group of fairies,
you were talking about?”
The party got silent.
The Governor said, “Kathryn, that remark did not go
unnoticed, it will be
handled when I get back to
Austin
.
Ya’ll getting ready for the great camel race?”
Charles/Kathryn s laughed and said, “Great, I don’t like
my friends being
called names. There is too much prejudice in this country. My
ranch looks the
Middle East
,
Bedouin, camels and goats.”
After eating, some of the guests meandered out to there seats
as the rodeo was
about to begin.
The Governor gave Kathryn a hug and said, “Thanks for the
help and take
care.”
Richard shaking the governors hand smiled said, “You’re
not going to the drag
queen rodeo and again I apologize for the gun.”
The Governor laughed and said, “It was handled badly, I
would have done the
same, she has some great friends. I have other voter’s
parties to day. It’s refreshing
to see such a diverse group unite behind one person.”
As the band played and they were dancing on the wooden floor,
that had
replaced the rodeo dirt.
Len laughed and said, “A year ago, if somebody told me I
would be standing
here after a drag queen rodeo, I would have had them killed
and now some punk
trooper calling me a fairy, he will be fired.”

Ken laughed and said, “I feel the same way, I never knew
what a drag queen
was and I tried to pick up one, the bull rider.”
Kathryn and Richard and Derek walked over.
Richard laughed and said, “Those girls were good, that girl
friend of Kens won
that bull ride, it’s unbelievable.”
Len said, “Richard could we step over here and talk. We
will be right back”
He put his arm around Richards shoulder and they walked away.
Ken laughed and said, “There is a man that’s confidence
of his sexuality, he
danced with Kathryn and puts his arm around Richard.”
Len said, “Richard, I appreciate what you did for Kathryn
today but you’re
her friend and don’t need to be in jail, you need to be
here for her.”
Richard said, “I acted foolish Len, but some body had to do
something.”
Len said, “I would have done the same, but you go around
waving a gun will
get you in jail and you can’t help anyone. I have an ideal
outside body guards.
They get paid to wave guns around, they have licenses to wave
guns around and if
they make a mistake they pay, not me and you.”
“Do you think she needs them?”
Len said, “No, not full time, but at these public
functions, some nut might
think it would be a hero to kill her, she hasn’t been out
that long and the more
she goes the more the danger. She’s appearing in the paper
a lot. Let’s get her over
here and tell her.”
“I agree I’ll pay them.” Richard said.
Len said, “There on our payroll, will rotate them so nobody
will learn them if
we need to or let them fit in, I have two outside, you will
see.”
Richard walked over and got Charles/Kathryn and explained to
her what was
happening and as Len was getting off the cell phone. Two gay
guys walked in the
door and walked to them shaking Lens hand. Edward a big guy
6'3" about 210
all muscle. Marvin about 6' 3" about 200 all muscle..
Len said, “Kathryn and Richard this is Edward and
Marvin.”
Edward flipped his wrist and said, “Girl, I saw your
picture in the paper, it was
so cool.”
Charles/Kathryn cut her eyes toward Richard and they both
looked a Len.
Len laughed and said, “Don’t look at me that way; they
have to fit in to these
functions. They are ex marines, martial arts experts and are
packing heat and can
shoot the eye out of a sparrow at a 100 feet and there gay.
They will fit into this
group. If it doesn’t work we will rotate them with others.
There not going to be
around just close if you need anything, let go back to the
group.”
David smiled said, “Did ya’ll enjoy the rodeo? Who are
those queens?”

Len laughed and said, “There from
Chicago
and they are late.”
Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “Very late, in fact they
almost didn’t make
it. This is Edward and.”
Richard said, “Marvin. Why don’t I take them around to
meet our friends?”
Edward said, “We’re sorry we’re late here is our ticket
money.”
Ken come back from dancing with Jan and Robert with Lynn as
the bull rider
walked by.
Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “He girl congratulation
on winning that
bull ride you really rode that bull.”
Bull rider said, “Thanks girl you want to dance?”
As the band announced a break as the bull rider escorted her
back to a table.
Tommy said, “We’re going to the ranch early in the
morning anybody wants
to go hunt some quail?”
“If we come home after the hunt, I’ll go.” Ken laughed
and said.
Jan said, “Count us in.”
Robert said, “We’ll go, it sounds like fun.”
Len laughed and said, “It’s in Zapata, and I’ll go I
have hunted deer down
there.”
Scott said, “We’ll go, it will be a great way to spend
Sunday.”
Richard said, “We have plans.”
Charles/Kathryn with a devilish grin said, “I have plans
tomorrow.”
Ken laughed and said, “What kind of plans do you have that
you can’t go
hunting, you didn’t go last time.”
Charles/Kathryn grinning said, “I’ll go next time, I have
date, I am going to
get laid.”
Ken laughed and said, “Who are you dating? You didn’t say
you were dating
anyone, I won’t even ask which sex it is?
Charles/Kathryn said, “A couple of girls I met.”
Ken said, “How do you date a couple of girls?”
Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “It is a little hard,
there is petty jealousy
and I haven’t seen them much since the investigation
started, I have been busy,
this will probably be our last date.”
Ken laughed and said, “What do you mean by petty jealousy?
What kind of
deviate sex are you doing? Them there hormones are doing a
number on you.”
“When they come to the door, you can only kiss one first,
when you have sex
one has to be first and the other second, sometimes one will
get mad and you
can’t get any sleep. Somebody is all ways getting up to

Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “No, there dancers, it
just kind of happened,
I was going out with one and she brought the other one with

was suppose to watch TV while we had sex. You know that big
tub with the mirrors.”
Len smiled said, “Big tub with mirrors, a bath tub?”
Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “Yes, it’s about 6 feet
by 6 feet and about a
foot deep. My date and I was in it bathing and fooling around
and she asked if
her friend could join. So she joined and I had sex with both
of them, but we
don’t do that any more, it looked like somebody beat us up
hitting that tile and if
your on bottom as you move back and forth, it creates waves
and if your own the

Richard laughed and said, “That’s a great lesson always

Derek quizzing asked, “Where do you do it now?”

the tile in the tub.”
Ken laughed and said, “We have just herd about the most
depraved sex story
in the world.”
Len laughed and said, “What do you mean, I have done it

George shrugged his shoulders and said, “At the bath
houses, there were

Ken laughed and said, “When you’re into this depraved

Charles/Kathryn said, “Kathryn, I have on my night gown.”
Ken laughed and said, “Man you got to love her, nobody else

that experience. I have to go, how are we getting to Zapata?
I can take my chopper
it seats 8”
Lynn laughed and said, “We’re going to have a night cap
at the ladies bar, anybody
want to come.”
Jan said, “Come on Ken let’s go have a night cap at the
ladies bar.”
Richard excitingly said, “Its 11:30 let’s all go, I have
an announcement at midnight.”
Jan laughed and said, “LuAnn’s has the best band, let’s
meet there.”
They pulled some tables together and Richard walked up to
band stand at 5
till 12:00,. And Kathryn on her cell and Derek were at his
side. The owner

and nodded her
head.
Charles/Kathryn enthusiastically said, “Everybody quite
please, your next
drink is on me. Hold it for a toast, this is a exciting
announcement.”
The waitress were passing out drinks every body had there
drinks.
Richard laughed and said, “Its 12 seconds to midnight lets
count it down 7, 6,
5, 4, 3, 2, midnight. The Governor of the great state of
Texas, has declared all
stabilized sand has the required strength, the state and only
the state has dismissed
the grand jury and the investigation for the state is
finished, drink up.”
As gang mobbed the stand to offer congratulations Derek
grabbed her and
kissed her.
Walking on air she went back to there tables and had a few
more drinks and
danced and nobody was feeling any pain. Kathryn looked over
at Ken and Len.
Charles/Kathryn winked at Len and said, “Ken a lot of the
people kissed me
on the lips, we’re you’re one of them?”
Ken put his hand on Lens shoulder and said, “No, I don’t
know what I have
achieved for a trooper to call me a fairy but I know I
didn’t kiss you because I was
kissing this fairy.”
Len stated laughing hysterically and said, “You’re funny,
no man ever said
anything that funny to me. I like you Ken.”
Ken laughed and said, “I like you and you’re everything
she ever told me
about you. But I won’t kiss or dance with you. You know
that lady you had at St.
Joseph ball, that was good looking woman, she looked like a
movie star.”
Len laughed and said, “She is a movie star, I own a movie
studio, and you
want me to fix you up with some stars?”
Ken said, “Sure, Kathryn and Richard and Derek need to
cancel you alls plans
and go hunting and then we will cross the border and eat in
Mexico and celebrate
your victory in style.”
Len laughed and said, “He is right and nobody else may
realize it Kathryn but
you’re smart enough to know. If the state passed, it will
all pass and if it doesn’t
then you can throw doubt on any jury. You have won that part
of the investigation
now whether drop the rest remains to be seen. Let’s go
celebrate come on
Richard you and Derek cancel your plans and let’s go. Hell
let’s take Edward and
Marvin.”
Robert look perplexed said, “We’re down now to
Kathryn’s core friends, who
in the hell are those two we’re not dumb asses?”

Richard smiled and said, “Nobody was trying to put anything
over on this
bunch. I just didn’t think everybody should know, there
body guards. Len convinced
me after I waved that 9mm around the governor.”
Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “We just haven’t been
alone with ya’ll,
since they were hired.”
Ken laughed and said, “You have gay body guards. It’s
insane, every since she
has put on that dress, it’s gotten insane. Robert and
Billy, that lady with Len was
a movie star and he will fix us up with some stars.”
Robert said, “Cool, that’s great Len.”
Len laughed and said, “Nobody was trying to keep you out of
the loop on the
guards, it just happened fast.”
Billy said, “You are right, the more she comes out the
likely a nut will try to
kill her.”
Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “Let’s go to the ranch,
I am not going to
hunt, but now we have thirteen, do we need the guards at the
ranch? I know let’s
take my chopper and I’ll have Nancy and we can leave the
guards here. If we’re
going hunting we’ll have guns.”

With the sun starting to peak over the horizon the gang
decided which one
would ride in which chopper. With the sound of the blades
whirling, Kathryn
handed Nancy a suitcase and a hang up bag, they flew side by
side to the ranch.
They sat at long tables devouring huevos rancheros. Kathryn
reached over and
put her arm on Richard’s shoulder and said, “I am so
proud of you when the
choppers were flying side by side for not flashing back.”
Ken said, “Do you flash back?”
Richard laughed and said, “Yesterday, when I pulled out
that gun with the
governor and that highway official. She said he’s flashing
back. Man you could
see the fear in those two’s eyes.”
Tommy said, “Does anybody want to ride? I have a map of the
ranch and you
can all hunt together or you can break up into groups in
different pastures.”
Billy laughed and said, “Ride as in as a horse?”
John said, “Yes, I will have the vaqueros saddle what you
want?”
Len laughed and said, “Ken, do you ride?”
Ken laughed and said, “Yes, but don’t tell me a man from
Chicago rides.”
Len laughed and said, “We had a ranch in Michigan and there
is every animal
including bears to hunt. I have killed some huge moose and
that country was too
hard for a jeep, you had to ride into the woods. Kathryn you
ride?”
Charles/Kathryn winked at Richard laughed and said, “The
only way, I would
ride is if I died and they threw my dead body across the
saddle.”
Scott laughed and said, “That’s the way I ride.”

Tommy said, “OK that’s Len, Ken, Jan, Billy, Derek and
Jack. I’ll tell the
vaqueros to saddle six horses and the other four can use the
jeep. It is getting early
morning.”
Charles/Kathryn said, “Nancy would you get my clothes out
of the chopper,
please?”
John said, “I loan you a gun Kathryn, if you want to hunt,
you didn’t eat any
breakfast.”
Kathryn laughed and said, “No thanks I don’t want to
hunt.”
Nancy handed her the suit case.
Charles/Kathryn said, “Is there a place I can change?”
John said, “Down that hall and second door on right.”
Charles/Kathryn smiled and said, “Thank you, ten minuets
Nancy.”
As she came out in expensive elegant dress, a couple inches
above the knee,
scoop neck and great heels, a little jacket on her arm.
Ken laughed and said, “Where in the hell are you going
dressed like you
would do brunch in New York City, in this area?”
Charles/Kathryn winked at Richard and said, “I have a
business breakfast on a
ranch, see you guys for lunch, good hunting. Ya’ll need to
get to the brush the
dew is burned off.”
With the sun at there back they headed toward the border, in
Zapata as fuel is
being put in the chopper, they walk over to an office and got
permission from
both Countries to cross the border, so they knew that they
were not drug runners.
With a full tank, they notice the low depth of the Rio Grande
River and
after about 20 min of flying it seem out of nowhere a chopper
appeared on the
starboard side and pulled within about fifty feet. The pilot
looked at Nancy
smiled and gave a thumbs up she smiles back as she returns a
thumb up and nodded.
With the sun on the starboard they flew about 10 min and
observe heavy
armed guards every so often and as the other pilot pointed to
a landing pad inside
heavy guarded walls with a huge mansion and a lake. With the
dry dust whirling
and she glanced through it a tall handsome Mexican man was
there, with the
blades dying and the dust settled a servant came over and
opened the chopper
door and she took his arm and he took her to the tall Mexican
about 6' 2" about
200 lbs black hair and extremely handsome with huge shoulders
and they
hugged.
Morales excitingly said, “Kathryn, you look great, you make
a beautiful
woman and a great friend, I do appreciate you meeting me in
that clearing giving
me a heads up on you being a TV and coming out, it if it was
possible, I gained
more respect for you.”

Charles/Kathryn frowned and said, “I am sorry, I never
could tell you because
of the children. Morales, I have some great news for you.”
On his arm they walk by the pool toward the mansion.
Morales laughed and said, “Kathryn, I have been keeping up
with you in the
paper and I knew you’re tough, but what you have been
through most people
would have caved, the coming out would have caved most strong
men, three or
four grand juries investigating would destroyed a person, I
been investigated for
six months and you never stop thinking, will this be the day,
yet you look so joyful
and radiant.”
The walked into the dinning room and the servant poured
coffee as he pulled
out her chair..
Charles/Kathryn passionately said, “Morales I am so glad to
be out of the
closet, I have such dear close friends and I was so tired of
deceiving you all.”
Morales fervently said, “Nobody looks on it as deceiving to
protect your family.
What are you doing down here, on the phone last night you
said hunting.
Should I ask what are you hunting dressed like that?”
“There is about 11-12 of us they are hunting I cane to see
my old friend. They
are taking me to lunch in Mexico to celebrate the great news.
The state of Texas
is dropping the investigation and all sand passed. These
huevo rancheros are to
die for.” Kathryn eagerly said.
“That’s great honey, if that passed they all will. You
know I miss our long
deep conversations.”
Charles/Kathryn laughed and said, “That’s what Len said.
I do to miss our
talks we would cover so many topics. Did I fly over a couple
tanks to get here?”
Morales looking stern said, “Mexico has changed, the drug
runners are dangerous
and a few of us in this area has a small army to scare
them.”
“I can remember the day, when the name was enough to scare
most.”
Morales laughed and said, “You have good memory and it
still does, this is for
the neighbors. Why don’t you go eat lunch with your friends
and come back and
we will have an all night bull session. I am leaving early in
