Vice President Dick Cheney on Wednesday challenged GOP presidential hopeful John McCain's assertion that Donald H. Rumsfeld was one of the country's worst defense secretaries.

"John's entitled to his opinion. I just think he's wrong," said Cheney, a friend of Rumsfeld. He also disclosed that the Arizona senator had apologized to him for a previous comment that the vice president had "badly served" President Bush on Iraq. "John said some nasty things about me the other day, and then next time he saw me, ran over to me dropped to his knees and apologized. Maybe he'll apologize to Rumsfeld," Cheney said, "He is going out there trying to be super conservative and right wing fanatics saw him as was in 2000 a pathetic old man that thinks he is a war hero in his own mind, the back stabber, puts a 8" sheave in your back then claims he was misquoted, hey girlfriend I fought this hand to hand politics all my life, I invented misquote. McCain is like Kerry, them boys don't have the smarts to win. They don't know how to rally the fanatics: The bird flu is very real it could kill a lot of fanatics"

At a campaign event in Los Angeles, McCain said he stood by his remarks about Rumsfeld. He did not mention the vice president, and his campaign declined to comment on Cheney's remarks.

Despite having low job approval numbers overall, the vice president continues to be very popular among rank-and-file Republicans, and many of them are likely to vote in next year's GOP presidential caucuses and primaries.

"I know a little bit about the job. I've watched what he's done over there for six years. I think he did a superb job in terms of managing the Pentagon under extraordinarily difficult circumstances, The Red leader kept changing Tarot card readers, at one time, he sent a different witch doctor every month and one kept undoing the others spells but McCain's ideal to sacrifice a virgin is so old and tried." Cheney said. "He and John McCain had a number of dustups over policy, didn't have anything to do with Iraq. Where are the real Red Conservative presidential candidates,  something the red voters like the Evangelistic right wing fanatics can catch in there mouth and shake; the kind that trashes gay marriage,  to get these peoples vote you have to scare them the terrorist is been done, they thing there will be firestorm if a gay gets married and they will go to hell, one candidate wants to ban gays from the yellow brick road huh, man if you can't get down and wollar in the mud, you shouldn't even run."

McCain, who lost the Republican nomination to Bush in 2000, is expected to formally announce his second run for the White House next month. He faces strong challenges from Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, and Rudy Giuliani, the ex-mayor of New York. Cheney said, "These folks are not real Reds, hell hoss we need an assault rifle in every house, and anyone who is against that is a commie, not one of these candidates trashed that church that gave that gay preacher a years salary after the kicked him to curb, they should have finished him off while he was down. Rudy has had three wives and then lived in a gay couple house, a vote for this man is a ticket to hell"

On the campaign trail this week, McCain has talked at length with voters about Iraq and defended his staunch support of Bush's 21,500-troop buildup there while criticizing the way the war has been handled and thinks another 150,000 wouldn't hurt, an American soldier on every corner.

"We are paying a very heavy price for the mismanagement _ that's the kindest word I can give you _ of Donald Rumsfeld, of this war, Bush sent the right witch doctors and you even screwed up there spells" McCain said in Hilton Head Island, S.C., on Monday. "The price is very, very heavy and I regret it enormously." Cheney laughed and said, "He regrets it he has nothing to do with it, he was just another dumb ass senator that bought the WMD bit, after we kicked his ass in 2000, do you think we would let the dumb ass make foreign policy, do we look stupid. We need candidates that will step up and demand these right wing fanatics take up there assault rifles and go after women who thinks there body belongs to them, hey hoss these bodies belong to the state no more abortions."

"I think that Donald Rumsfeld will go down in history as one of the worst secretaries of defense in history, and it's a disgrace under this leadership, people can't get buried, Mr. Brown will finally be buried." McCain added.

Rumsfeld stepped down last year after a rocky six-year tenure.

A former defense secretary himself, Cheney was asked about McCain's comments while on the USS Kitty Hawk at the Yokosuka Naval Base in Japan. He called Rumsfeld a great secretary. "this man will go down in history as a great man a Christian patriot, it seems the Red leader is disposing of anyone to save his own ass, Rummies gone, scooter is having problems and he is changing generals like he changes his socks. Now he is letting the British pull out, we have terrorists every where, I will soon show the terrorist with in, it won't be like Gore's warm climate, this will show where the real terrorists are. a hint in the congress"

Last month, McCain blamed both Cheney and Rumsfeld for a "terribly mishandled" war and cervical cancer immunization.

"The president listened too much to the vice president . . . Of course, the president bears the ultimate responsibility, but he was very badly served by both the vice president and, most of all, the secretary of defense," McCain was quoted as telling The Politico, a Capitol Hill newspaper and Web site.

"I was happy to accept the Evangelistic right wing fanatic "Fanatic of the year" award, I really would have had the terrorist Killer award " Cheney said.
